What is PBIS? Through PBIS, we will work to create & maintain a productive, safe environment in which ALL school community members have clear expectations and understandings of their role in the educational process. Part of the PBIS process is defining our expectations through our school motto, with which the students will soon become very familiar. Our motto is: "Urbana Middle School: SOARing to Excellence" Students will be taught the behavioral expectations in both classroom and non-classroom settings. They can then earn TALONS for positive behavior on a daily basis. Talons can be used for weekly/monthly prize drawings, the school store, as well as various opportunities throughout the school year. Poor behavior and/or work habits may result in these consequences at UMS: 1. Review of Expectations Rewards All Students are encouraged to bring their TALONS to the cafeteria/lunch every Friday. There will be a weekly drawing on Fridays for small items (i.e. free cafeteria snacks). There will be monthly TALON drawings for larger prizes (i.e. gift certificates). Once again, students will bring their TALONS to the cafeteria for monthly drawings, just as they do for the weekly one. There are 4 Soda Breaks scheduled this year, one for each term. Students will be able to purchase a ticket for their Soda break using TALONS. |
